Global Decarbonization: Manufacturing Matters

In the global race towards decarbonization, having sunlight or wind is no longer enough; it's essential to know how to manufacture the tools for transition. This is revealed by the Greenplexity Index, published on November 5, 2025, by the prestigious Growth Lab of Harvard University. This ranking evaluates 145 countries based on their ability to produce and export sophisticated "green" technologies.

Beyond Extraction

Inspired by the Economic Complexity Index (ECI), this ranking penalizes countries that only export raw materials. On the other hand, it rewards technological depth. To put it simply: having lithium is good, but knowing how to manufacture power converters or precision components is where the real added value lies.

Tunisia Creates a Surprise!

The result is clear for the continent: Tunisia emerges as the African leader, achieving an impressive 33rd place globally. It surpasses Morocco (58th), Egypt (64th), and South Africa (69th).

A Performance Based on Industrial Strength

This performance is no coincidence. It relies on an already well-established industrial fabric in the production of complex goods:

  • Electrical equipment and control systems (insulated cables, transformers, fiber optics)
  • Power components (converters, industrial motors)
  • Advanced materials (technical polymers and semi-finished metals)

The Greenplexity Index highlights Tunisia's ability to produce and export sophisticated green technologies, making it a leader in the African continent and a significant player in the global decarbonization effort.
