Tunisia Ranks Second in Africa for AI Adoption and Readiness

Tunisia has risen to the second position in Africa for the adoption and readiness of Artificial Intelligence (AI), according to the latest AI Talent Readiness Index 2025. With a score of approximately 51.8 points, it is positioned just behind South Africa (52.15) and tied with Egypt, confirming its growing strength in the technological field on the continent.

Evaluation Criteria

This ranking assesses the ability of countries to integrate and exploit AI applications in their economies, considering three pillars:

  • Human capital
  • Digital infrastructure
  • Innovation ecosystem Tunisia stands out particularly for its level of skills in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), estimated at over 71% of the active population. These performances are based on a solid foundation of university education and an expanding digital ecosystem, driven by local startups and public policies oriented towards digital transformation.

Kenya and Morocco Lead in Public AI Adoption

While Tunisia excels in "AI readiness," other African countries dominate in terms of usage. Kenya, for example, is currently the country where the use of tools like ChatGPT is most widespread on the continent, with an adoption rate estimated at 42.1% among internet users. Morocco follows closely with nearly 38% of active users and an awareness of AI that reaches over 80% of the connected population.

Interesting Dichotomy

These trends reveal an interesting dichotomy: some countries, like Tunisia and South Africa, focus on training and long-term strategy, while others bet on the rapid dissemination of AI tools in daily life.

Challenges Ahead

However, despite these advances, Africa remains faced with significant challenges:

  • Inequalities in access to the internet
  • Limited digital infrastructure
  • Lack of data centers to support technological growth These challenges must be addressed to ensure the continent can fully leverage the potential of AI and maintain its momentum in the technological field.
