STEG Commissions New High-Voltage Substation in Bou Argoub to Strengthen Cap Bon’s Power Grid
The Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) has officially commissioned a new high-voltage electrical substation in Bou Argoub, located in the Nabeul Governorate. Priced at 47 million Tunisian dinars (TND), the infrastructure is designed to reinforce the region’s power supply—particularly for its industrial zone—while significantly improving grid reliability and operational resilience.
Situated within the Hached industrial area of Bou Argoub, the facility was inaugurated on Friday, August 21, 2026, by the Governor of Nabeul alongside STEG’s President and CEO. The project features two 33/225 kV transformers, each rated at 40 MVA, complemented by 27 medium-voltage switchgear cells aimed at bolstering power distribution to surrounding residential and commercial zones.
A critical milestone for the project is its seamless integration into the national high-voltage transmission network. The substation is now connected to three major electrical hubs—Grombalia, Jebel Ressas, and Bouficha—via three new 225 kV overhead transmission lines. These connections span approximately 45 kilometers in total:
- 9.6 km linking Bou Argoub to Grombalia
- 10.5 km to Jebel Ressas
- 24.7 km to Bouficha
Completed in just 18 months, this new substation significantly reinforces the Cap Bon peninsula’s electrical grid architecture. By expanding transformation capacity and multiplying high-voltage connection points, the project marks a strategic step forward in ensuring stable, resilient power supply for the region’s growing industrial and residential demands.
