In response to the pressure on the national power grid during periods of high consumption, the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas (Steg) is asking hotels to temporarily adjust their energy usage to avoid supply disruptions.
Request to Hotels
In a letter addressed to the Zodiac Hotel, among others, and published on social media, Steg invites the hotel management to limit the use of certain energy-intensive electrical equipment during peak hours. The goal is to contribute to maintaining the stability of the national power grid, which is particularly strained during the summer season.
Objective
The company specifies that this measure is part of the efforts to preserve the continuity of service and address the constraints related to the increase in electricity demand. The affected establishments are called upon to reduce their consumption daily, from mid-day to early afternoon, a period that generally corresponds to a peak in consumption.

This approach comes as Tunisia experiences a significant increase in electricity demand every summer, driven in part by the intensive use of air conditioning in homes, businesses, and tourist infrastructure.
