Asia Potash to Invest Heavily in Tunisia's Mining Sector

Chinese company Asia Potash, specialized in potassium extraction and modern agriculture development, has announced its intention to invest massively in Tunisia's mining sector. This ambitious project could materialize through the construction of an industrial mining complex in the Kef governorate, with a mid-term production target of 8 million tons of phosphate, estimated to require an investment of $800 million.

The announcement was made during a visit by a Chinese delegation led by Yu Baolei, Vice President of the Industrial Development Department, and Humeng Fei, Director of Mining Investment Development, who were received on April 3, 2025, by Jalel Tebib, General Director of Fipa-Tunisia (Agency for the Promotion of Industry and Innovation). These Chinese officials confirmed their interest in the Tunisian market, highlighting the region's potential for phosphate extraction and mining industry development.

Asia Potash International Investment (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd, a listed company, is already a major player in the global phosphate industry, with development projects in several countries. The company plans to start with an initial extraction of 1 million tons of phosphate, before increasing to an annual production of 8 million tons. This project is part of a strategic plan to strengthen the company's position in the global mining industry.

During the meeting, Tebib welcomed this investment choice in Tunisia, emphasizing the Tunisian government's willingness to promote a favorable environment for foreign investments. He also highlighted the tax and regulatory advantages offered by Tunisia to foreign investors and assured the support of Fipa-Tunisia in the implementation process.
