DRC and AC Milan Sign Cooperation Agreement to Boost Tourism and Sports Development
After Rwanda, which has sealed partnerships with Arsenal and PSG, the Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC) seems to be following suit, this time with the prestigious AC Milan. A cooperation agreement was signed by the Lombardy-based team and the Congolese Minister of Tourism on the sidelines of the Plan Mattei and Global Gateway summit, which concluded on Friday, June 20, in Rome. This initiative, set up by the Italian government, aims to limit the influx of migrants in Italy and offer new opportunities to Italian businesses on African soil.
The Congolese Ministry of Tourism becomes a premium partner for the Italian football club. This choice is no coincidence, but rather reflects the team's popularity on the continent. It is undoubtedly the most loved and followed Italian club in Africa, with nearly 500 million fans across Europe, Asia, and America.
This partnership aims to increase the visibility of the RDC and support its sports sector development. Among the objectives mentioned, there will be the attraction of new investments, creation of business opportunities, and enhancement of the RDC's tourist attractiveness on the international scene. Moreover, there will be support for social projects. Thanks to the contribution of the Fondazione Milan, there will be rehabilitation work on sports infrastructure and even the construction of a school. The first AC Milan Academy in the RDC will be established, as part of the AC Milan International Academy program, which will ensure better training for young players.
The financial counterpart has not been revealed. However, the Congolese government is counting on boosting its tourism sector and targeting revenues of $7 billion and between 200,000 and 500,000 new jobs by 2030.
