Gafsa Phosphate Company Sees 18% Production Increase in Q1 2025
The Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG) has recorded an 18% increase in commercial phosphate production during the first quarter of 2025, compared to the same period last year. This announcement was made by the Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, during a working visit to the Gafsa governorate on Friday.
Deep Reform of the Phosphate Sector
The Minister emphasized the State's commitment to deeply reform the phosphate sector as part of a new integrated strategy. This reform is based on strengthening coordination between the concerned ministries - Economy, Finance, Agriculture, and Environment - to optimize production while ensuring better management of water resources and energy consumption. This is part of a comprehensive plan to revitalize the CPG.
Targeted Reforms for Key Enterprises
Fatma Thabet Chiboub also specified that her department plans to initiate targeted reforms to revitalize three key enterprises in the sector: the Tunisian-Indian Fertilizer Company (TIFERT), the Environment, Plantation, and Landscaping Company, and the Tunisian Company for the Transport of Mineral Products.
Diversifying the Economic Fabric of Gafsa
In parallel, the Minister indicated that her department will work to diversify the economic fabric of the Gafsa governorate to support regional development dynamics. She also mentioned that twenty projects are currently on hold in the region due to constraints related to access to bank financing.
