Nigeria to Host World's Largest Cotton and Polyester Processing Plant

With a population of over 200 million, Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, is set to host the world's largest cotton and polyester processing plant.

The announcement was made on April 30, 2025, by the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, via the X platform. President Bola Tinubu is expected to soon inaugurate the laying of the foundation stone of this plant, dubbed the "Renewed Hope Cotton Resurgent Initiative".

The industrial complex, which will span 400 hectares within the special agro-allied zone near the Gateway Airport, aspires to become a major center for the transformation of local cotton and polyester from petroleum.

According to the authorities, the project could create up to 250,000 jobs per day. The Governor also highlighted that the choice of Ogun State is based on its quality infrastructure, strategic location, and investment-friendly environment.

Furthermore, the Nigerian Army's airbase could be established in Iperu to reinforce security around the industrial site and airport.

In support of this dynamic, several urban development projects have been launched, including the construction of housing, modernization of schools, health centers, and a new hospital for mothers and children. These initiatives aim to accompany industrial development while improving local living conditions.
