New Regulation on Checks in Tunisia: Implementation Delayed
It was planned that the law detailing the new regulation on checks would come into effect on February 2, 2025. However, a request submitted by a group of deputies to the ARP has proposed to postpone this deadline to next August.
This delay gives an additional six months to use up unused checks, but it does not reassure skeptics about the effectiveness of this new regulation.
It is worth recalling that checks in Tunisia are not only used as a payment method but also as a promissory note or as collateral between two parties.
This new regulation not only tightens the use of checks for payment but also for all these practices. Some experts believe that this will further strengthen the informal economy.
The Tunisian state had announced that it had opted for this reform to strengthen transparency and security in financial transactions by checks.
