UN Peacekeeping Department Awards Tunisian Major Ahlem Douzi the Prestigious UN Pioneer Award
On May 7th in New York, the United Nations Department of Peace Operations awarded Tunisian Major Ahlem Douzi the prestigious UN Pioneer Award for Women in Judicial and Penitentiary Expertise.
Serving as a justice officer with the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), Major Douzi brought her expertise in military armament and ammunition, playing a crucial role in supporting investigations into serious crimes. Her expertise in forensic analysis and ballistics was indispensable for collecting, preserving, and preparing evidence for Congolese and UN investigators.
This award recognizes the exceptional contributions of women in peacekeeping operations, particularly those who have defied gender stereotypes to excel in traditionally male-dominated fields.
"Working as a woman in a male-dominated field certainly presents challenges. However, I see it as an opportunity to break down gender barriers and pave the way for other women who aspire to pursue careers in similar professions," Douzi stated.
