Jordanian Market Opens to Tunisian Exporters of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Announcement by the Tunisian Export Promotion Center

A notice to Tunisian exporters published by the Tunisian Export Promotion Center on November 11, 2025, announces the opening of the Jordanian market for the importation of extra virgin olive oil for the 2025/2026 campaign.

Background

The local production in the Kingdom exceeds the estimated consumption this year due to the combined effects of drought and the olive tree's fruiting cycle, affecting the forecasts of a harvest that typically provides 25,000 tons of local olive oil. The Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture has declared that this quota will be shipped in stages.

Import Quota

According to the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture, the first stage will be limited to 4,000 tons, pending further developments based on local demand. The Jordanian authorities justified this initiative as part of the ministry's plan to ensure price stability and provide high-quality oil to citizens, following the decline in local production this season.

Priority Importers

Priority for importation will be given to the Military Consumer Institution, the Civil Consumer Institution, the Press Owners' Syndicate, the Farmers' Syndicate, and private sector companies that meet the required criteria.

Import Regulations

The Secretary-General of the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that no nepotism or favoritism will be tolerated, and imports will be made exclusively through companies duly registered in the commercial register and respecting regulations. Imports will come from countries members of the International Olive Council, including Turkey, Greece, Tunisia, Italy, Spain, and Morocco, ensuring diversity of supply sources and availability of high-quality oil.

Packaging and Distribution

Imports will be made in packaging with a maximum capacity of 4 kilograms, except for the Press Owners' Union, which will be authorized to import packaging up to 8 kilograms. The objective is to regulate marketing and distribution and prevent market exploitation or price distortion.

Objective and Benefits

The primary objective of these imports is to ensure citizens have a supply of high-quality olive oil at fair prices, conforming to Jordanian specifications and standards. The Ministry of Agriculture is closely following the file to ensure transparency, fairness of distribution, and market stability within the existing regulations.

Trade Agreements and Benefits

Given the trade agreements in force governing bilateral trade between Tunisia and Jordan and the preferential benefits offered, the exported quantities will be totally exempt from customs duties and will benefit from all the advantages made available by Tunisian support organizations.

Recommendation

It is strongly recommended that exporters contact their counterparts in the institutions involved in this sector to seize this opportunity in the best possible time and conditions.
