France and Morocco Sign Multiple Agreements Worth up to €10 Billion
During the first day of French President Emmanuel Macron's state visit to Rabat, several agreements were signed between France and Morocco, covering strategic sectors and worth up to €10 billion.
These partnerships between the two Mediterranean countries will focus on key areas, including:
- Rail transport: French companies Alstom and Egis will contribute to the construction of the second section of the high-speed train line connecting Tangier to Marrakech.
- Renewable energy: Morocco aims to become a leader in this field, and the agreements will promote energy transition and cooperation for better energy connectivity.
- Hydrogen production: TotalEnergies has signed an agreement to develop a green hydrogen production chain in Morocco, following a similar deal with Tunisia in May to build a large complex for green hydrogen production and export in the south of the country.
These agreements come almost three months after France expressed its support for Morocco's autonomy plan for the disputed Western Sahara region, seeking to strengthen its ties with Morocco.
