Tunisian Ministry of Health Announces Significant Progress in Pharmaceutical Sector

The digitalization initiative of the National Agency for Medicinal Products and Health Safety, unveiled on Wednesday, January 22, 2024, was applauded by Minister of Health Mustapha Ferjani and in the presence of Joy Hood, Ambassador of the United States of America.

The Minister announced that Tunisia has acquired the status of an advanced country in the production of medicines and digitization of their references. This will enable the acceleration of registration and monitoring procedures for medicines, effectively managing the country's medicine stock and streamlining the distribution process to Tunisian citizens.

He also emphasized the need to continue working on the "Saha" project in collaboration with the United States Embassy, through continuous training, exchange of experiences and techniques in various fields and phases, aiming to improve the governance of the pharmaceutical sector, with a total cost of approximately 30 million dinars.

The Minister highlighted the importance of re-examining procedures to optimize the efficiency of the pharmaceutical sector, simplifying processes and control of the supply chain, in order to combat counterfeiting and parallel markets. He also valued Tunisia's position in the pharmaceutical industry and exports.

Furthermore, the Minister of Health announced that the digitization of medical files has reached 95% in all hospitals and primary care centers. He also unveiled an imminent project to motivate doctors and offer evening health services.

Regarding the situation of the Central Pharmacy, the Minister stressed that since November of the previous year, stakeholders have been collaborating on strategies to establish a link between this institution and social funds, aiming to ensure pharmaceutical security in the country. The results of this partnership will soon be concrete, according to him.
