Tunisia's Public Debt Reaches 126.5 Billion Dinars, Up 10.10% in 2023
As of the end of 2023, Tunisia's public debt has increased by 10.10% compared to the previous year, reaching 126,501 million dinars. This amount represents 79.8% of the country's GDP.
According to the Ministry of Finance's report, which presents the provisional results of the budget execution until the end of December 2023, external debt accounts for a significant portion of the total debt, at 52.7%, equivalent to 66,703.6 million dinars. In parallel, internal debt constitutes 47.3% of the total debt, corresponding to 59,797.4 million dinars.
Furthermore, the euro dominates the structure of Tunisia's external debt, with a representation of 58.5%. The dollar comes in second place with 27.1%, followed by the Japanese yen at 7.5%.
The same report indicates that Tunisia has repaid more than 20,734.1 million dinars in debt service for 2023, marking an increase of 43.6% compared to 2022. Interest alone accounted for approximately 5,820.2 million dinars, recording a 24.8% increase compared to the previous year.
