Tunisia Raises Currency Transfer Limits for Foreign Study Expenses

The Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) has increased the limits for currency transfers intended for study expenses abroad, in accordance with a new circular published on Friday. This circular defines the conditions and procedures for transfers for study and academic internship expenses internationally.

New Transfer Limits

  • The limit for installation fees has been raised from 4,000 to 6,000 dinars per academic or school year.
  • The limit for living expenses has been increased from 3,000 to 4,000 dinars per month.

Academic Internships Abroad

Academic internships abroad are now eligible for currency transfers for study and living expenses, whereas they were previously subject to special authorizations and excluded from previous circulars.

Transfer Methods

Transfers can now be made by:

  • Wire transfers
  • Checks
  • International payment cards, specifically dedicated to installation and living allowances

New Guarantees

The circular introduces new guarantees:

  • Students must now provide a simplified file, with the possibility of presenting provisional documents in case of absence of a certificate of registration, on condition of regularizing their situation within three months.
  • In case of visa refusal or abandonment of studies, transferred funds must be recovered within 15 days and repatriated in dinars within 60 days.

These changes aim to facilitate the process of studying abroad for Tunisian students, while also introducing measures to ensure the responsible use of currency transfers.
