Tunisia to Receive $125 Million in Funding from the World Bank to Strengthen its Healthcare System

The Tunisian government is set to receive a $125 million financing package from the World Bank to bolster its healthcare system, with a project focused on preparing for health emergencies, developing basic care, and improving hospital services.

According to an official statement, the project, supported by the Global Fund for Epidemics, will be launched in 2025 to optimize the quality of care and resilience of the healthcare sector in Tunisia.

The Minister of Health received a delegation from the World Bank on November 4, 2024. The visit, which took place from November 4 to 8, laid the groundwork for the project and defined priority actions.

The plan includes measures to strengthen epidemic management, with an advanced data collection system, reference diagnostic laboratories, and rapid response teams.

Basic healthcare services will be restructured to incorporate more prevention, with increased digitalization and solar-powered centers in priority areas.

Finally, the hospital sector will benefit from mobile emergency services, equipped ambulances, and an integrated information system to improve care management.
