Official Announcement: OFT Tunisie Authorized as a Payment Institution in Tunisia

It's official. OFT Tunisie is now authorized to operate as a payment institution in Tunisia. The Licensing Committee of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) made its decision on January 29, 2026, which was published in the Official Journal of the Republic of Tunisia (JORT) under number 65 of the year 2026. This decision is based on Law No. 48 of 2016 of July 11, 2016, related to banks and financial institutions, particularly articles 10, 20, 24, 25, 27, and 30.

What is OFT Tunisie?

OFT Tunisie is the local subsidiary of Ooredoo FinTech International LLC (OFTI LLC). This company obtained authorization from the BCT in December 2024 to create a payment institution in Tunisia. This entity has now received its final approval, under the name OFT Tunisie.

Key Points of the Decision

The decision includes two essential points:

  1. Granting of the final license to operate as a payment institution, as defined in Article 20 of the 2016 Banking Law.
  2. A strict obligation: OFT Tunisie has a maximum of six months from the date of notification to activate this authorization. If the institution fails to start operating effectively within this deadline, the approval may be revoked.
