The Bank of England to Introduce New Polymer Banknotes Featuring King Charles III
The Bank of England has announced that it will start using new polymer banknotes featuring King Charles III from June 5, 2024. The new £5, £10, £20, and £50 notes will bear the portrait of King Charles III, replacing that of Queen Elizabeth II, but with no other changes to the existing designs.
The old polymer notes featuring Queen Elizabeth II will remain in circulation and retain their legal tender, circulating alongside the new notes featuring King Charles III. The Bank announced the arrival of new banknotes featuring King Charles III in a statement released on February 21, 2024. "The King is only the second monarch to feature on our banknotes," said Governor Andrew Bailey.
