Kromberg & Schubert Accelerates Growth with New "Béja 2" Plant in Tunisia
Kromberg & Schubert is shifting into a higher gear. The German group, founded in 1902, has once again chosen Béja, Tunisia, as a key location for its expansion. According to data reported by the TAP News Agency, the company recently inaugurated "Béja 2," a new facility specializing in automotive cables and wiring systems. Located in the Béja industrial zone, the site is expected to significantly increase its operational capacity in the coming years.
Investment and Infrastructure
The new plant spans 60,000 square meters. Its construction and equipment represent an investment of 270 million Tunisian dinars. According to Wissam Badri, General Manager of Kromberg & Schubert in Béja, the total investment is projected to reach nearly 300 million dinars upon the project’s completion.
Job Creation and Workforce Growth
The site already employs 2,600 people. The workforce is expected to grow to 3,500 by 2027 and 6,000 by 2028. By 2029, the project is anticipated to create approximately 7,500 additional jobs.
With both plants now operating in Béja, the group is set to reach nearly 14,700 jobs in the region by 2029. The combined revenue of the two sites is expected to approach 1.5 billion dinars by the same timeframe. As noted by TAP, Béja 2 is designed to meet the growing demands of clients in the automotive industry. Management describes the site as the group’s largest production unit in Tunisia and one of its most significant facilities globally.
Company Profile and Global Footprint
Kromberg & Schubert specializes in wiring systems used in vehicles. Its activities cover harnesses for engines, passenger compartments, doors, and batteries. The company supplies major international automotive manufacturers and tier-one suppliers.
While the production of wiring systems remains at the core of its business, Kromberg & Schubert also develops solutions in cables, wires, and plastic components. The group maintains production sites and technology centers across various regions worldwide.
Tunisia already holds a strategic place in this global network. The group has multiple presences in the country, including its industrial operations in Béja and a technology center in Ariana. These sites are integrated into a production network spanning several countries.
Strategic Significance of Béja 2
With the launch of Béja 2, the group’s presence in Tunisia changes scale. The project combines new production capacity with substantial job creation. It also enables the group to respond to emerging market needs in the automotive sector while strengthening its operations from Tunisia.
The ramp-up will be gradual. Following the current 2,600 employees, the site aims to reach 3,500 staff by 2027 and 6,000 by 2028. The group then targets approximately 7,500 additional jobs by 2029. For the Béja region, this represents a significant boost to an industrial employment basin that is poised for continued growth.
