The third edition of KOTAS (Korea Tunisia Africa Startups) 2024 will take place from October 22 to 24, showcasing innovative startups from South Korea, Tunisia, and Africa. This international event will be held over three days at The DOT and Novation City in Sousse, iconic locations for Tunisian entrepreneurs.

A Unique Focus on Tunisia

KOTAS 2024 stands out from previous editions with its particular focus on Tunisia, under the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. The event will welcome nine Korean startups from key sectors such as AI and robotics, Climate Deep Tech, and culture. Among these startups, Morphing I Co. Ltd. specializes in robotic technology for critical infrastructure inspection.

Cultural Exchange and Economic Synergies

In the cultural sector, Taewon Lee, Ambassador of South Korea to Tunisia, stated that the inclusion of this sector is strategic. According to him, "if both parties understand each other's cultures, it facilitates business." This approach aims to strengthen commercial relations by fostering a better mutual understanding between economic actors from both countries.

Innovative Solutions for Climate Change and Food Security

In the Climate Deep Tech sector, companies like Saemmulter and Farmitry Inc. offer innovative solutions to address climate change and food security challenges. Their work illustrates the commitment of Korean startups to respond to Tunisia's sustainable development priorities.

Strong Economic Ties between South Korea and Tunisia

Economic relations between South Korea and Tunisia are solid, with a trade volume reaching $600 million. South Korea exports mainly vehicles and electronics to Tunisia, while Tunisia exports mineral fuels and clothing to South Korea. Korean investment in Tunisia since 1980 amounts to $5.6 million, while Tunisian investment in South Korea is modest at $0.59 million.

A Dynamic Platform for Collaboration and Growth

KOTAS 2024 represents a dynamic platform for the sharing of ideas and the development of collaborations between Korean, Tunisian, and African startups. With a focus on cultural understanding and economic synergies, this event promises to be a catalyst for strengthening ties between South Korea and Tunisia.

Taewon Lee also highlighted that this edition is particularly focused on Tunisia and its market, noting that "the market presents strong advantages, with so many talents, especially in the IT sector."
