President Kais Saïed Meets with Central Bank Governor to Discuss Tunisia's Economic Progress
The President of the Republic, Kais Saïed, met with the Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, Fathi Zouhair Nouri, to discuss the crucial role of the Central Bank in the country's economy, emphasizing its position as a dynamic public institution. He highlighted recent economic achievements, including the repayment of 40% of public debt services for 2025, accomplished in January, thanks to prudent management of national resources.
The President also underscored the stability of inflation, which remained at 6% in 2024, down from 7.8% the previous year, while successfully controlling the value of the Tunisian dinar against major international currencies. He stressed that the country's economic orientations must always reflect the will of the Tunisian people, a principle that has proven its effectiveness and relevance over time.
During the meeting, the launch of the unified electronic platform for check transactions, TuniChèque, was also discussed. This project has been joined by 22 banks and the Tunisian Post, with nearly 97,000 registered users. The President also emphasized the importance of the Tunisian Financial Analysis Commission (CTAF) in ensuring increased protection against suspicious financial flows.
