The Kairouan Governorate is set to launch a cereal campaign covering a total area of 53,500 hectares at the beginning of November for the 2024-2025 agricultural season.

Irrigation and Rainfed Crops

Out of this total area, 28,000 hectares will be irrigated, while 25,500 hectares will be dedicated to rainfed crops, according to estimates provided by the Regional Commission for Agricultural Development (CRDA) in Kairouan.

Crop Distribution

The program plans to sow 28,500 hectares with durum wheat, 100 hectares with soft wheat, and 24,900 hectares with barley.

Positive Outlook

Mouldi Romadhani, President of the Regional Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (URAP) in Kairouan, welcomed the recent rainfall, which he believes has provided significant support to existing crops, anticipating a good start to the sowing operations this autumn.

It is worth noting that the Kairouan Governorate holds the top national position in terms of irrigated land area dedicated to cereals.
