Japan Breaks National Temperature Record with Scorching 41.8°C
Today, August 5, Japan set a new national temperature record with a scorching 41.8°C (107.2°F) in the city of Isesaki, located in Gunma Prefecture, north of Tokyo. This new mark surpasses the previous record of 41.2°C (106.2°F) set just last week in the Hyogo region.
This extreme heatwave is part of a global climate crisis, causing increasingly erratic and intense weather conditions worldwide. In Japan, these temperature spikes are of utmost concern to authorities, who have issued heatwave alerts in 44 out of 47 prefectures, urging the population to limit travel, stay cool, and hydrate adequately.
Experts are also observing disturbing changes in local biodiversity, such as the delayed or complete failure of the famous cherry blossoms to bloom, affected by unusually mild winters.
As extreme phenomena worsen, Japanese authorities are calling for urgent action to protect the population, strengthen the resilience of crops, and better prepare infrastructure for climate change.
