Toyota Showcases Carbon Neutrality Technologies at JapanMobility Show Bizweek 2024

Toyota Motor Corporation recently participated in the JapanMobility Show Bizweek 2024, held at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture. The event brought together the mobility industry and startups to co-create towards a common goal of sustainability. Toyota presented its carbon neutrality technologies as part of its diverse sustainability initiatives.

Pursuing Carbon Neutrality through Multipathway Approach

Toyota is working towards achieving carbon neutrality through a multipathway approach, encouraging co-creation with startups and other companies in two key areas:

  1. Hydrogen Society Initiatives: Toyota is promoting the development of a hydrogen-based society, which contributes to energy stability and reduces environmental impact.
  2. Renewable Energy Management: The company is focusing on the management of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, to minimize CO2 emissions during the production process.

Main Exhibitions

1. Portable Hydrogen Cartidge

Toyota showcased its portable hydrogen cartidges, which can be used to generate electricity in fuel cell systems or as a fuel. The technology developed for FCEVs has been used to reduce the size and weight of hydrogen tanks, making them portable and convenient to use in daily life. A hydrogen-powered cooking stove, developed in collaboration with Rinnai Corporation, was also exhibited as an example of hydrogen usage.

2. Sweep Energy Storage System

Toyota's Sweep energy storage system utilizes used batteries from electrified vehicles, promoting a circular economy. The system, developed in collaboration with JERA Corporation, maximizes the remaining energy storage capacity of each battery, contributing to a stable energy supply and the spread of renewable energy.

3. GR Corolla Powered by Liquid Hydrogen

Toyota's GR Corolla, powered by liquid hydrogen, was exhibited at the joint JAMA exhibition stand. The vehicle has participated in endurance races in Japan and abroad, demonstrating Toyota's continuous efforts to refine its cars and people through racing, and to overcome challenges with its partners from the industry, government, and academia to achieve carbon neutrality.

Through these exhibitions, Toyota sought to find matches with technologies and ideas that can improve its carbon neutrality initiatives, such as tracing technologies for used batteries and technologies that can dramatically shorten and reduce the workload of battery replacement.
