Apple Releases iOS 18.3.1 Update to Enhance iPhone and iPad Security

Apple deployed a corrective update, iOS 18.3.1, on Monday, February 10, 2025, aimed at strengthening the security of iPhones and iPads. This patch comes just a few days after the release of iOS 18.3, a relatively minor update in terms of new features.

In its official note, Apple mentions "important corrections and security-related improvements" without providing further details. However, a document published on Apple Support reveals that the vulnerability concerned the restricted USB mode, a feature introduced in 2018 to limit data transfer via USB if the device has not been unlocked for seven days. According to Apple, this vulnerability could have been exploited in highly sophisticated targeted attacks.

While waiting for iOS 18.4, which is expected to introduce Apple Intelligence in Europe, this update is strongly recommended for all users.

How to Install iOS 18.3.1?

To download the update on your iPhone or iPad:

  • Open Settings
  • Go to General
  • Select Software Update
  • Launch the installation of iOS 18.3.1

N.B.: As usual, it is recommended to connect your device to a power source and Wi-Fi before installation.
