Apple Banned from Selling iPhone 16 in Indonesia over Local Component Rules

Apple Inc. will not be able to sell its iPhone 16 smartphones in Indonesia due to its failure to comply with local regulations regarding the use of locally manufactured components. Indonesia requires that certain smartphones contain at least 40% of locally produced parts, a criterion that the iPhone 16 has not met.

In the first quarter of 2024, the top smartphone manufacturers in Indonesia were Chinese company OPPO and South Korean company Samsung, according to research firm IDC. With a large tech-savvy population, Indonesia represents a key market for technology investments.

It's worth noting that the iPhone 16 was launched in September.
