Investment in Renewable Energy Accelerates in Tunisia
The Tunisian government is now relying on the authorization system to unlock projects and attract more private operators.
A Consultation to Remove Blockages
A working meeting was held on Tuesday, March 17, at the Ministry of Industry, chaired by Ouael Chouchene, Secretary of State in charge of energy transition. Representatives from CONECT, companies in the sector, and several public officials were present. The goal is to precisely identify obstacles to accelerate the implementation of these strategic projects.
Authorizations as a Growth Lever
The authorization mechanism has become a central tool for the development of the sector. During the fifth round, 186 authorizations were granted for a total capacity of 286 megawatts. This system aims to facilitate the installation of investors and complements existing devices, such as concessions and self-production, to rapidly increase the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix.
Concrete Solutions for Households
In parallel, several programs continue to be deployed for individuals. The Prosol Elec program allows households to produce their own electricity. An economic version of this device also targets middle-income families. These initiatives aim to expand access to clean energy while reducing the energy bill of households.
The Essential Role of the Private Sector
The state considers the private sector as an indispensable partner to succeed in this transformation. Companies are actively participating in the implementation of energy solutions on the ground. Ouael Chouchene recalled that this collaboration is the key to strengthening the country's energy efficiency. Faced with an increasing demand for electricity, Tunisia is accelerating to build a more sustainable model and secure its supply.
