Steg to Launch Deployment of Smart Meters in Sfax in June 2024
Steg will begin deploying the first batch of smart meters in the city of Sfax in June 2024, as part of the pilot phase of its Smart Grid project.
This €120 million project, financed by the French Development Agency (AFD), aims to install 450,000 meters in six Tunisian cities, representing 10% of Steg's total customer base, according to Tap news agency. The project will improve the efficiency of the electrical grid, modernize billing, and detect illegal practices.
Ultimately, it will replace estimated billing with a system based on actual consumption. The works will last 8 months, with an experimental phase until 2026 to resolve potential issues.
