Tunisian Banks Must Declare Payment Incidents to the Central Bank within Two Business Days
Tunisian banks are required to declare any payment incident to the Central Bank of Tunisia within a period of two business days. This includes:
- Unsettled checks within legal deadlines
- Checks rejected due to opposition
- Regularizations made in accordance with regulations
These declarations are made through the Central Bank's data exchange system, which imposes rigorous standards. Banks are responsible for keeping records related to these declarations and ensuring their accuracy before transmission.
Any error or omission, whether it be non-declaration or incorrect declarations, exposes banks to sanctions provided for in Article 412 of the Commercial Code, including fines ranging from 500 to 5000 dinars.
In the event of non-compliance, the Central Bank informs the Public Prosecutor, highlighting the importance for banks to sensitize their teams and reinforce internal data control before sending. This process ensures effective management of incidents and reinforces trust in the banking system.
