Tunisian Customs Launches Mobile App for Remote Currency Declaration
With the summer holidays and the return of our compatriots from abroad, the Tunisian customs has launched the testing phases of a new mobile application that will allow travelers to declare their currencies remotely, even before their arrival or departure. This will make life easier for arrivals and departures, while also saving significant time at airports and ports.
Reminder: Currency Declaration Requirements
It is essential to recall that any import or export operation of currencies, with a value equal to or exceeding the equivalent of 10,000 TND, must be declared to the customs services upon entry, exit, and during transit operations.
Non-Resident Travelers: Currency Export Regulations
Non-resident travelers cannot re-export the equivalent of more than 5,000 TND in banknotes of the currencies they imported, unless they have completed a currency import declaration at the entrance of the Tunisian territory, duly stamped by the customs services. This declaration is valid for three months from the date of entry and can only be used for a single trip.
Non-resident travelers cannot re-export the equivalent of more than 30,000 TND in banknotes of the currencies they imported and declared upon entry. In this case, the re-exportation must be carried out by authorized financial and banking institutions.
Unused Currency Allowance
If the traveler has not fully used the allocated currencies, the remaining amount can be re-attributed to them for future trips if they have surrendered it to an approved intermediary within a maximum of 7 working days following their return, and provided they can justify the repatriation of the currencies.
Important: Keep Currency Exchange Receipts
A final key point to note: Tunisian residents living abroad must keep receipts for currency exchange operations performed during their stay. Upon exit, these receipts will serve as proof of the use of these currencies. This is crucial to avoid problems and comply with regulations.
