African Summit of the Arab Council for Scientific Cooperation Kicks Off in Hammamet
The African summit of the Arab Council for Scientific Cooperation (ACSC) began on Monday in Hammamet, Tunisia, for a three-day period, under the theme "Towards Intelligent and Secure Digital Governance for Digital Transition in African Governments". Academics and researchers from Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, and Saudi Arabia are participating in the event.
AI: Both a Threat and a Shield
In an interview with the TAP agency, ACSC CEO Kadhi Hichem justified the choice of theme due to the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) and its close link with cybersecurity. He believes that AI plays a dual role, exposing computer systems to new risks, but also serving as a lever to protect data integrity. He emphasized that cybersecurity is becoming increasingly dependent on AI.
Maghreb and Libyan Universities Associated with the Event
The event, co-organized with the universities of Sfax, Kairouan, Gafsa, and El-Hofra in Libya, covers several aspects, including:
- The exploitation of AI in strategic sectors
- Digital governance
- Means of strengthening the cybersecurity of African states
Kadhi Hichem highlighted two priority areas:
- Developing technical tools capable of putting AI at the service of data protection
- Modernizing human skills and legal frameworks
Examining the Links between Law and Artificial Intelligence
The program also includes an examination of the links between law and artificial intelligence. Participants are expected to formulate recommendations for future African regulations governing the protection of personal data and the use of AI.
