Tunisian Olive Oil Exports See Significant Growth in 2025/2026 Campaign

Key Figures and Trends

The Tunisian olive oil exports have shown a significant increase during the first six months of the 2025/2026 campaign. According to data published by the National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI), the exported quantities reached 295,400 tons, compared to 180,200 tons during the same period of the previous campaign, representing a 63.9% increase.

This growth has also led to an increase in export revenues, which rose to 3.6438 billion dinars, compared to 2.4424 billion dinars a year earlier, recording a 49.2% growth.

Export Forms and Quality

The majority of Tunisian olive oil exports are sold in bulk, accounting for 87.5% of the exported volumes, while packaged oil represents only 12.5%. Although this share is slightly higher than the 11.9% observed during the 2024/2025 campaign, packaged exports still only generate 16.7% of the sector's total revenue.

The extra-virgin quality dominates foreign sales, accounting for 83.5% of the total volume exported during the first six months of the campaign.

Prices and Markets

In parallel with the increase in volumes, prices have decreased. In April 2026, the average price of Tunisian olive oil was 12.67 dinars per kilogram, compared to 13.77 dinars a year earlier, representing an 8% decrease. Prices varied between 8.81 dinars and 16.55 dinars per kilogram, depending on the category.

The European Union remains the main market for Tunisian olive oil, accounting for 56.5% of exported volumes, followed by North America (23.2%), Asia (12.1%), and Africa (4.5%).

By country, Spain remains the largest importer, with 32.3% of exported quantities, followed by Italy (19.6%) and the United States (19%).

Organic Olive Oil Exports

Organic olive oil exports have also shown significant results, with a volume of 37,900 tons and a value of approximately 497.7 million dinars. However, the share of packaged organic oil remains limited, at only 5.7% of the exported volume.

The average price of organic olive oil was 13.12 dinars per kilogram, reaching 16.15 dinars for packaged products and 12.94 dinars for bulk exports.

Italy is the largest customer of Tunisian organic olive oil, with 38% of exported volumes, followed by the United States (25%), Spain (24%), and France (8%).

Conclusion

These figures confirm the strong dynamics of Tunisian olive oil exports, while highlighting the persistence of a major challenge for the sector: increasing the share of packaged exports to capture more added value on international markets.
