Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi End Discussions on Commercial Integration
Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi have decided to terminate discussions on a commercial integration. Initially focused on creating a joint holding company, the negotiations evolved towards making Nissan a subsidiary of Honda, leading to a disagreement between the parties.
The integration aimed to unite their forces to face global competition and the challenges of electrification, but the manufacturers failed to find common ground. Despite this rupture, the three companies have confirmed that they will continue to collaborate on projects related to electric vehicles and intelligent technologies, such as autonomous driving.
This project, which was supposed to be finalized in 2024, had raised questions about its potential benefits, particularly due to the intense competition and challenges related to restructuring their respective activities. Honda, in better financial health, was to take the lead in the partnership, while Nissan sought to maintain its strategic independence.
