Restoration of the Historic Casino de Hammam-Lif
The municipality of Hammam-Lif has announced the official launch of the restoration works for the "Casino de Hammam-Lif", a protected historical monument since September 1, 2000, and a major symbol of the national heritage of the Ben Arous governorate. This long-awaited project aims to breathe new life into this iconic site by transforming it into a cultural, tourist, and social hub.
Project Overview
This ambitious project is part of the innovative "lzamates" initiative, under the supervision of the General Instance of Public-Private Partnership (IGPPP), in close collaboration with the National Heritage Institute (INP), the Ministry of State Domains and Land Affairs, and with the support of the French agency Expertise France. The technical and architectural studies, entrusted to the Arké Architecture firm, have been validated at all stages by the INP to ensure respect for the monument's identity and specificity.
Restoration Works
Following a public call for tenders launched in July 2025, the restoration works, estimated to last 18 months, have been entrusted to the Tunisian companies BIRC and ENIBTP, with a construction permit (No. 1825) issued on July 11, 2025. The cost of this phase amounts to 2.3 million Tunisian dinars, excluding taxes, financed by the European Union.
Future Management and Operation
The municipality plans to entrust the management and operation of the casino to a private investor, selected through a call for tenders scheduled for 2026. This approach aims to ensure sustainable use of the monument while offering attractive services to residents and visitors.
Local Development and Cooperation
The municipality of Hammam-Lif emphasizes the importance of this project as a lever for local development, contributing to the enhancement of the city's unique heritage and the economic, social, and cultural dynamism of the region. It also illustrates the success of cooperation between public and private actors in preserving and promoting national heritage.
