General Strike in Tunisia's Banking Sector
The General Federation of Banks and Financial Institutions, affiliated with the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT), has announced a general strike on November 3 and 4, 2025. The movement will affect all banking and financial institutions across the Tunisian territory.
Reasons for the Strike
In its official statement, the federation justifies this decision by citing "obstacles to trade union rights and the interruption of social dialogue." It also highlights the deterioration of the contractual framework for employees, exacerbated by budget constraints related to the year 2025. According to the federation, these factors have led to a deadlock in negotiations with employers.
Call to Action
The trade union structure calls on all workers in the sector to participate massively in the strike by reporting to their workplace wearing a black armband, whether in central offices or branches. This symbolic gesture aims to express mourning for the degradation of the social climate in the sector.
Warning Against Pressure and Intimidation
The statement also warns against any form of pressure or intimidation, reaffirming the determination of agents to defend their fundamental rights. The federation calls for "strengthening mobilization around legitimate demands" and supporting all UGTT structures.
Rally in Tunis
Additionally, the federation invites all agents and executives from Greater Tunis to participate in a rally on Monday, November 3, starting at 9:00 a.m., at Mohamed Ali Square, in front of the UGTT's central headquarters in Tunis.
