Commercial Surface Employees to Go on Strike on September 28, 2024

Employees of large, medium, and small commercial surfaces will observe a strike on Saturday, September 28, 2024, due to the non-signature of a sectoral agreement.

This decision was announced by Saber Tebini, General Secretary of the General Federation of Food Industries, Tourism, Commerce, and Craftsmanship (FGIATCA), which is affiliated with the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT).

The strike is a result of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce, and Craftsmanship (UTICA) refusing to validate a common sectoral agreement project, despite the National Chamber of Large Surfaces giving its approval. This text aims to regulate working conditions in these surfaces.

In response to this situation, the federation has called on the authorities, particularly the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Presidency of the Government, to intervene and unlock the situation.

It is important to recall that this strike was initially scheduled for August 31, 2024, but was postponed at the request of the National Chamber of Large Surfaces, finally setting the new date for September 28, 2024.
