General Federation of Food, Tourism, Commerce, and Crafts (FGAT) Announces 48-Hour Sectoral Strike
The General Federation of Food, Tourism, Commerce, and Crafts (FGAT), affiliated with the UGTT, has confirmed the organization of a 48-hour sectoral strike after talks with the government reached an impasse.
Strike Details
According to the statement addressed to regional unions, the strike will begin on the night of Tuesday, December 9, 2025, and will continue until midnight on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. All establishments and enterprises in the concerned sectors are called upon to participate. Workers are required to report to their posts in the morning before joining the Regional Labor Union headquarters for rallies.
Justification for the Strike
The FGAT justifies this decision due to the "refusal of sectoral administrative authorities" and the "rejection of negotiation" by the Ministry of Social Affairs. The statement also highlights the lack of new attempts at dialogue despite repeated requests from the union, which has led to the call for mobilization. The Federation holds the government responsible for this deadlock and calls on workers to maintain their unity.
Demands Behind the Strike
Behind this strike, the unions have been demanding for months a revision of working conditions in the food, commerce, and tourism sectors, which have been heavily affected by inflation, precariousness, and wage stagnation. Professional organizations also point to the deterioration of the social climate in companies, the increase in the cost of living, and the growing pressure on workers, particularly in seasonal activities.
