Wayback Machine Now Integrated into Google Search Results

The Wayback Machine, which archives billions of web pages and allows access to internet archives, is now directly integrated into Google search results. This tool, very practical for consulting old versions of websites, was announced by the Internet Archive in a blog post.

This initiative provides rapid and efficient access to archived versions of web pages. As a key tool for digital preservation, the Wayback Machine offers the possibility of consulting snapshots of websites at various periods, sometimes covering several decades. With over 866 billion pages archived on the Internet Archive platform, it provides invaluable access to internet history.

The initiative to make these archives easily accessible in Google search results highlights the importance of preserving online content, often threatened with disappearance.

How to Use Wayback Machine?

Google is gradually deploying the addition of links to the Wayback Machine, so this functionality may not be available to you yet. However, the Internet Archive has shared the procedure to consult a web archive from a Google search. Here's how to access the Wayback Machine via search results:

  1. Perform your Google search as usual.
  2. Next to a result, click on the menu represented by three small dots.
  3. An information panel opens on the right side of the page. Click on "Learn more about this page" or "Learn more about this result".
  4. A new page appears, where a link to the Wayback Machine should appear, allowing you to consult previous versions of the website or internet page.

Note: The integration of the Wayback Machine into Google search results is being rolled out gradually, so this feature may not be available to you yet.
