Ophthalmological Surgery Team at Gabès University Hospital Achieves Success with First Amniotic Tissue Graft (Corneal Graft)

The ophthalmological surgery team at Gabès University Hospital has successfully performed its first amniotic tissue graft (corneal graft) under the supervision of Dr. Yassine Belghaith, in collaboration with the National Organ Transplant Promotion Center and the Gabès Blood Bank.

This surgical intervention was performed on a young patient suffering from a deep corneal ulceration. In addition to this medical breakthrough, the team has recently carried out nine cataract surgeries with medical lens implantation, using the phacoemulsification ("phaco") technique for the first time.

These achievements mark a significant progress in providing advanced ophthalmological care to patients in the southern region of the country.
