Vegetable Production in Gabès Sees Significant Increase
Total Production Reaches 32,425 Tons, Up from 30,592 Tons in Previous Season
According to data provided by the Regional Commissariat for Agricultural Development, the total production of early vegetables in Gabès has reached approximately 32,425 tons, marking an increase from the 30,592 tons produced in the previous season (2022-2023).
Geothermal Vegetable Exports See Slight Increase
Geothermal vegetable exports have totaled 24,455 tons in the last season, compared to 24,780 tons in the previous year, representing a slight increase of 1.4%.
Plans for Next Season
In preparation for the 2024-2025 agricultural season, the Commissariat has planned approximately 191 hectares for geothermal crops, which is expected to yield an estimated 38,000 tons of produce, with 27,000 tons destined for export.
Background on Geothermal Farming in Gabès
It is worth noting that in Gabès, geothermal farming is concentrated on nine large projects, in addition to initiatives led by small-scale farmers who cultivate around 13 hectares.
