Mohamed Ali Nafti Meets with Special Committee for Recovery of Embezzled Funds Abroad
Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad Discusses New Strategy for Asset Recovery
On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, held a meeting with the Special Committee for the Recovery of Embezzled Funds Abroad at the ministry's headquarters. The committee, established by Presidential Decree No. 112 of 2020, operates under the presidency of the Republic and is tasked with examining actions taken to recover embezzled funds abroad and suggesting initiatives to facilitate this process.
The meeting focused on reviewing the conclusions of the committee's first activity report and identifying the challenges that continue to hinder the restitution of stolen funds abroad. Following discussions, both parties decided to adopt a new strategy that encompasses diplomatic and judicial aspects in managing this dossier. They also plan to present specific suggestions to intensify diplomatic actions with several foreign nations, aiming to accelerate the recovery of stolen funds belonging to the Tunisian people.
Representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Finance, State Domains, and Real Estate, as well as the Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), attended the meeting to ensure a comprehensive understanding of all legal aspects of this dossier.
