Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tunis to Stop Accepting Current Format of Bank and Postal Checks
As part of the preparations for the implementation of Law No. 41 of 2024, promulgated on August 2, 2024, and amending the Commercial Code, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tunis (CCIT) has announced that it will no longer accept bank and postal checks in their current format as of January 22, 2025. This decision precedes the entry into force of this new regulation, scheduled for February 1, 2025.
To ensure business continuity, the CCIT has specified that payments can now be made:
- in cash for amounts less than 5,000 dinars,
- through electronic payment methods,
- or by bank transfer to account number 77 788 708 0050 000 000 10.
Clients opting for bank transfer will need to provide proof of payment to finalize their transactions. The Chamber has also assured that it will inform its members later about the procedures to follow for using checks in their new format, in accordance with the requirements of the amended law.
This initiative aims to strengthen the digitalization of commercial transactions and modernize the legal framework governing payments. The CCIT invites its members to stay informed about the next steps and to anticipate the necessary adjustments for a smooth transition to these new practices.
