Diaspora: A Precious Human and Financial Capital for Tunisia

During the opening of an international workshop in Tunis on the engagement of the diaspora in investment and sustainable development, the Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), Fethi Zouhaier Nouri, highlighted that the diaspora constitutes a precious human and financial capital for Tunisia. In 2024, their transfers represented 30% of foreign exchange reserves and 6.5% of the GDP, with nearly 2 billion dinars already invested.

While acknowledging its macroeconomic role, he noted that its potential remains underutilized, with average remittances of $120 per month, far below the global average. To address this, he advocates for four levers: increased implication in public policies, better access to economic information, a simplified business environment, and the creation of dedicated financial products.

Finally, he called on the diaspora to continue building bridges with Tunisia", affirming that it "invests, creates, innovates, and connects", thus shaping the country's future.
