Tunisia's Trade Balance: A Mixed Bag in the First Seven Months of the Year
Exports to the EU Increase by 0.4%
During the first seven months of this year, Tunisia's exports to the European Union (70% of total exports) saw a modest increase of 0.4%. This growth is attributed to the rise in exports to several European partners, including:
- Italy (6.9%)
- Spain (22.8%)
- Belgium (6.8%)
On the other hand, exports to France (-1.6%) and Germany (-3.5%) decreased.
Neighboring Countries: A Mixed Performance
Regarding neighboring countries, Tunisia's exports:
- Increased with Algeria (44.6%) and Egypt (14.8%)
- Decreased with Libya (-14.2%) and Morocco (-15.4%)
Imports from the EU Rise by 1.6%
As for imports from the EU (44.2% of total imports), they recorded a 1.6% increase, reaching 20,639.5 million Tunisian dinars (Mtnd). Specifically, imports from:
- Germany increased by 13.6%
- Spain increased by 5.4%
On the other hand, imports from:
- Italy decreased by 6.3%
- France decreased by 2.2%
- Belgium decreased by 18%
Imports from Non-EU Countries: A Mixed Performance
Outside the EU, Tunisia's imports:
- Increased with India (+12.9%) and Switzerland (+19.3%)
- Decreased with Russia (-9.8%), Turkey (-5.1%), and China (-1.2%)
Trade Deficit Reaches 9,633.3 Mtnd
The trade balance deficit stands at 9,633.3 Mtnd, primarily due to the deficit with certain countries, including:
- China (-4,712.6 Mtnd)
- Russia (-3,295.3 Mtnd)
- Algeria (-2,214 Mtnd)
- Turkey (-1,610.1 Mtnd)
- Greece (-890.2 Mtnd)
- Ukraine (-861.3 Mtnd)
