Tunisian Date Exports Continue to Grow
Despite Price Pressure, Volumes and Revenues Increase
Tunisian date exports have continued to progress during the first eight months of the 2025/2026 campaign. Revenues reached 770.7 million dinars, a 4.8% increase compared to the same period in the previous campaign, while exported volumes increased by 5.3%, according to data from the National Observatory of Agriculture (Onagri).
Between the start of the campaign and the end of the eighth month, Tunisia exported 121,500 tons of dates, compared to 115,400 tons the previous year. The Deglet Ennour variety continues to dominate foreign sales, representing 83.3% of the total exported volume. Despite this growth in volumes and revenues, prices have declined. The average price observed during the eighth month of the campaign was 5.96 dinars per kilogram, a 7% decrease compared to the same period in the 2024/2025 campaign. For the Deglet Ennour variety, the average price reached 7.20 dinars per kilogram.
Main Export Destinations
The European Union remains the primary destination for Tunisian dates, with 47.9% of exported quantities. It is followed by Asia, which absorbs 21% of volumes, and then Africa with 19.3%. At the market level, Morocco maintains its position as the leading importer of Tunisian dates, with 14.1% of exported quantities. Italy comes in second with 12.2%, ahead of Germany, which represents 10.4% of purchases.
Organic Date Exports
Organic date exports have also shown positive growth, totaling 7,024 tons for a value of 71.9 million dinars. Compared to the same period in the previous campaign, volumes have increased by 13.3% and revenues by 28.4%. However, organic dates still represent a limited share of total exports, at 5.8% of volumes. The average price of organic dates was 10.24 dinars per kilogram, significantly higher than that of conventional dates. Germany remains the leading market for Tunisian organic dates, with 32% of exported volumes, followed by the Netherlands (12%) and Belgium (10%).
According to Onagri's calculations based on data from the Tunisian customs and the General Directorate of Organic Agriculture, the campaign confirms the good performance of Tunisian date exports, despite downward pressure on prices.
