Tunisia's Fishery Products Trade Balance Shows 67.5% Deficit by End of May 2025
By the end of May 2025, Tunisia's trade balance for fishery products recorded a deficit of 59.9 million dinars, marking a significant 67.5% decrease compared to the same period in 2024, when the surplus reached 184.4 million dinars, according to the National Observatory of Agriculture (Onagri).
Exports Down 20% in May
In May, exports stood at 11,400 tons, valued at 267.3 million dinars, a decline of nearly 20% in both volume and value compared to May 2024.
This decrease is accompanied by a drop in export prices, which now stand at 23.4 dinars per kilogram, down from 23.9 dinars in May 2024.
Breakdown of Exported Products
Among the exported products, fish topped the list with 5,200 tons, followed by canned and semi-canned goods (2,900 tons) and crustaceans (2,700 tons).
Main Importers of Tunisian Fishery Products
Tunisian fishery products are exported to over 27 countries, with Italy remaining the largest importer (31%), followed by Spain (14%) and Libya (12%).
Imports Up 33.9% in May
On the import side, there was a 33.9% increase in value, reaching 207.4 million dinars in May 2025, and a 35.5% increase in volume, with 31,700 tons. However, import prices decreased by 3.1%, to 6.5 dinars per kilogram compared to the same month in 2024.
Distribution of Imported Products
The imported products primarily supply the industrial sector (76.9%), while 22.7% are used to stock the market and 0.4% for fattening.
