Tunisia 2035: Young People's Hopes and Concerns

A recent study titled "Tunisia 2035: What Opportunities for Our Youth?" has shed light on the aspirations and concerns of young Tunisians. The study, presented at the 16th Enactus Tunisia national exhibition on social entrepreneurship and innovation, was conducted by "One to One," a research and polling specialist.

Snapshot of Tunisia 2035

The study's results, presented by Youssef Meddeb, founder and CEO of "One to One," show that young people have a critical and lucid view of Tunisia's future. Key findings include:

  • 62% of respondents believe Tunisia will be more prosperous in the next 10 years.
  • 75% are optimistic about their own future, but only 23% are optimistic about the future of others.
  • The three biggest challenges facing young people are: purchasing power, the mismatch between university education and employment, and the state of public services.
  • The most promising job opportunities are: freelancing, immigration, entrepreneurship, working in the private sector, and, lastly, in the public sector.
  • To build a solid foundation for Tunisia, young people believe that particular efforts should be made in education and training, technological infrastructure, and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI).

Key Sectors and Skills

According to the study, the sectors with the most opportunities are:

  • Digital and AI
  • Green energy
  • Education
  • Technology
  • Innovative agriculture
  • Textiles
  • Manufacturing

The skills deemed essential for success are:

  • AI
  • Soft skills
  • Languages
  • Leadership

Challenges and Solutions

Young people identify the following obstacles to their integration into the workforce:

  • Remuneration
  • Mismatch between education and employment
  • Favoritism
  • Corruption

To overcome these challenges, they propose the following solutions:

  • Education reform
  • Creating more job opportunities
  • Attracting more foreign investment
  • Trusting young people and giving them a chance to contribute to Tunisia's development

Enactus Tunisia Exhibition

The study was presented at the Enactus Tunisia national exhibition, which brought together over 1,200 students, 200 business leaders, startuppers, politicians, diplomats, and cultural personalities. The event featured inspiring chapters, including "Follow the Leaders," "Speed Hiring Pitch," "Project Exhibition," "Fun Fair," and "Enactus Tunisia's Talent." A panel discussion delved deeper into the study's themes, with the participation of Radhi Meddeb, president of the Comete group.

Encouragement and Support

During the opening session, words of encouragement were showered on the hundreds of students present. "Our main goal is to enable these young movers to flourish," said Farouk Zouhir, president of Enactus Tunisia. George Tsiatis, president and CEO of Enactus and Resolution Project, echoed this sentiment, praising the students' enthusiasm and energy. Winfried Weck, from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, also addressed the students, urging them to maintain their energy and enthusiasm to achieve success.
