Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company Denies Rumors of Automatic Power Outages

The Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) has denied, on Friday, the information circulating on social media about automatic power outages. In a statement, STEG affirmed that its department has taken all necessary measures to anticipate the summer electricity demand, including maintenance and reinforcement operations on installations, production stations, and the distribution network.

Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy Confirms Periodic Power Cuts

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy also issued a statement on Friday, indicating that STEG has implemented a program of periodic power cuts in case of necessity, aiming to avoid interruptions in sensitive areas and critical national installations. This program provides for 15 to 30 minute interruptions to preserve the integrity of the electrical system.

Electricity Consumption Expected to Reach 5200 Megawatts

Regarding electricity consumption, the Ministry forecasts a peak of 5200 megawatts for summer 2024, compared to 4825 megawatts recorded the previous summer, representing an increase of over 7%.
