International Development Finance Corporation Opens First Regional Office in West Africa

The International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the US development finance agency, has inaugurated its first regional office in West Africa, located in Abidjan. This initiative marks a key step in the US strategy to strengthen its economic partnerships with the region, particularly through targeted investments aimed at stimulating growth and addressing strategic challenges.

With over $13 billion invested in 300 projects across 36 African countries, the DFC is demonstrating its ambition to play a leading role on the continent. To date, it has a portfolio of $41.5 million in Côte d'Ivoire, covering sectors such as agriculture, energy, and financial inclusion.

During the inauguration, Ivorian officials praised the choice of Abidjan, a major economic hub in West Africa, to host this strategic office. The office is expected to facilitate the mobilization of new financing and reinforce Côte d'Ivoire's role as an economic hub in the region.

Finally, the DFC announced a partnership with USAID, allocating $7 million to support women-led small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly in the agricultural sector.
