Tunisia Rises in Global Startup Ecosystem Rankings

Tunisia has climbed one spot to 90th place in the global startup ecosystem rankings, according to the "Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2024" report published by StartupBlink.

African Continent Rankings

On the African continent, Tunisia maintained its 10th place ranking, surpassing countries like Morocco, Uganda, and Rwanda.

City Rankings

Tunis jumped 18 places to reach 342nd place globally, while Sousse made its debut at 1293rd place.

Funding and Growth

The report highlights a significant increase in funding raised by Tunisian tech startups in 2022, reaching $37.4 million, double the $18.7 million recorded in 2021, and more than seven times the $5.3 million collected in 2020.

Government Support and Initiatives

The report also notes the progress made by Tunisia to boost its startups, including the Startup Tunisia initiative, which grants special status to startups, exempting them from capital gains tax for up to eight years, as well as contributions from the private sector, incubators, and accelerators in supporting Tunisian entrepreneurs.

Challenges Ahead

While these figures may seem positive at first glance, it's essential to note that Tunisia has experienced a decline in the index over the past few years, dropping from 77th place in 2020 to 82nd in 2021, 83rd in 2022, and 91st in 2023.

Global Rankings

Globally, the top-ranked countries remain unchanged, with the United States leading the way, followed by the United Kingdom.
